This picture is from a trip to Seneca lake this past summer. I thought it kind of summed up the best parts of the summer season.
I always like this time of year. I know it's sad for most students, but as a teacher is a way to start over and try new ideas and lessons the classroom. I have written lesson plans for the first month of classes already. Although everything is subject to change, it's nice to have a solid plan to fall back on.
The room is all set up too. Mrs. Burkhardt and I logged some serious summer hours cleaning, arranging and organizing 151. The bookshelves are stocked with all sorts of new titles. I can't wait to start book talks. I think this year's kiddies have a lot to look forward to within our classroom library. The decor of the room has changed too. We cleared out some textbooks from the 70's to make room for new literary goodness and writing binders. There are new decorations, and I actually had time this year- in between double sessions of soccer- to create some bulletin board displays. I have to get in with my digital camera to provide the proof! The Christmas Tree Store saved the room from infinite boredom. I shopped in the "Party" section to find good deals and unexpected classroom items.
I am looking forward to meeting my new 7th graders. It's hard to believe this will be my fifth year at RJ, my third batch of kids! I am feeling pretty lucky to get to see some of my first year's kids all grown up starting their junior year in HS! Friday, I even saw some of them behind the wheel... Totally scary for me and absolutely exciting for them. I should add, all of them showed competency and caution while driving :) My guys and gals from the last two years will be starting their freshmen year in HS. I remember those days... I think they are beginning to accept the notion that yes, their lockers are teeny tiny. They thought there wasn't enough room in their Middle School lockers!
I hope everyone enjoys their Labor Day weekend! JV soccer girls, I will see you Tuesday, from 3:30 to 5:30pm on our field. Seventh graders, I'll see you Wednesday at 7:40am! Don't forget your summer reading!

Summer is over already?? Are you sure?
